What We Do
Development of Protocol for Legal Service Provision
The project will develop a Protocol for Legal Service Providers that could be used to capacitate the public and private prosecutors & paralegals and at the same time encourage them to adopt an effective and gender sensitive prosecution and case-handling of VAW cases. This material shall also be used for training workshops.
Justice & Healing (J&H) Meetings
With the aim of documenting and showcasing an alternative inquiry process based on the Appreciative Inquiry Paradigm that is also gender-sensitive, rights-based, victim centric and CEDAW compliant to the judicial system, 20 Justice & healing meetings to be conducted & documented across the Philippines.
Comprehensive Paralegal Training for Direct Service Providers from the VAWNET, NNFVPP, CATW and the ALGs
The project shall conduct a total of 9 days of training & workshops targeting 35 service providers in 3 cities in Philippines. This training program aims to build capacities of NGO service providers(from VAWNET, NNFVPP, CATW, ALGs) on legal aspects of VAW laws.
The project would also build capacities of at least 15 NGOs on Justice & healing meetings operational manual. The NGOs then would help conduct the J&H meetings.
Comprehensive Mentoring program on handling VAW cases
Women LEAD lawyers shall provide mentoring to the trained paralegals in at least 5 VAW cases.
Training / Workshop for Effective and Gender-Sensitive Prosecution and Case-Handling of VAW Cases for Public and Private Prosecutors and Paralegals
The project shall create awareness and build capacities of at least 100 legal practitioners throughout Philippines on a gender sensitive, rights-based CEDAW compliant approach of handling VAW cases. These training workshops shall also be used as avenues for the creation of a network for information sharing among legal practitioners in the Philippines.
Direct Legal Assistance to Women Victims/ Survivors
The project shall also aim at offering direct legal counseling & psycho-social assistance to about 500 women victims / survivors throughout Philippines. The project hopes to showcase the difficulties faced by women and intends to provide legal representations to at least 3 strategic cases. These initiatives shall provide the content for various education materials and advocacy materials.
Barangay Forums
To educate and galvanize communities as a active players in eliminating violence against women, at least 15 Barangay forums will be conducted to create awareness on VAWC cases at the local level. This activity also hopes to encourage all local stakeholders (leaders, officials, VAW desk officer, local police & other prominent personalities) to design a mechanism that will eliminate violence at the baranggay level.
